EMWD and You: Working Together for a Healthy Sewer System

Perris, CA (November 19, 2020) — November 19, 2020, is World Toilet Day which was established by the United Nations to raise awareness of the importance of responsible wastewater systems and the role they play in protecting public health around the world.  To commemorate the day, Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) encourages customers to be Sewer Smart by doing what they can to help protect our wastewater collection system.

EMWD Hosts Virtual State of the District

Perris, CA (November 19, 2020) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) today hosted its virtual State of the District event to provide key stakeholders and customers with information on how EMWD is working toward a more resilient future.

The biennial State of the District event was hosted virtually due to public health restrictions and to make the event accessible to all EMWD customers who want to learn more about how California’s sixth-largest retail water agency is working on their behalf.

EMWD Begins Work on McCall Boulevard Pipeline Replacement Project

Perris, CA (November 4, 2020) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) this month began work to replace an aging portion of pipeline in McCall Boulevard in the City of Menifee.

The McCall Boulevard Pipeline Replacement project will replace more than 6,000 linear feet of 12-inch pipeline between Bradley Road and Valley Boulevard. The existing pipeline is more than 50 years old and is being replaced as part of EMWD’s proactive replacement and refurbishment program.

EMWD Achieves Seventh Consecutive Cal STAR Safety Recertification

Perris, CA (August 28, 2020) – This week Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) received recognition and recertification by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) for its industry-leading safety achievements.

EMWD again obtained Cal/OSHA Voluntary Protection Plan STAR status, exemplifying the safety culture and corresponding recognition it first achieved and has continuously held since 1999.

EMWD Honored for Financial Reporting Excellence

Perris, CA (August 3, 2020) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) was recently recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association, marking the 16th consecutive year that EMWD has earned the distinction.

EMWD received the Certificate of Achievement for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a 21,000-member nonprofit organization for government finance professionals.

EMWD Releases Annual Water Quality Report

Perris, CA (June 25, 2020) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has released its 2019 Consumer Confidence Report, which provides customers information about their drinking water quality and sources.

EMWD again met or surpassed all state and federal drinking water standards, as established by the State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Drinking Water and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

State Board Increases EMWD-Record Grant Award

Perris, CA (June 11, 2020) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) today finalized an agreement with the State Water Resources Control Board (State Board) that will significantly increase what was already the largest grant award in EMWD’s history.

The State Board has increased EMWD’s $36.3 million grant award to $44.9 million for EMWD’s proposed Perris North Groundwater Program. The program is a long-term solution to improve groundwater quality in the North Perris Groundwater Basin, in the Moreno Valley area.

EMWD Announces Student Art Contest Winners

Perris, CA (May 27, 2020) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has announced the winners of its 2020 Poster Contest, which is open to all elementary school students in EMWD’s service area.

The annual contest allows grade school students to create a poster as part of the “Water is Life” art contest run by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. A panel of judges from EMWD and Rancho California Water District selected the winners.

Riverside County’s family of water agencies this past week launched a collaborative campaign with a goal to continue assuring customers that the region is coming together during this unprecedented time to maintain essential services to the communities they serve.  The regional campaign aims to reinforce the collective efforts the agencies have undertaken as essential service providers to protect public health during the COVID-19 (corona virus) pandemic.

EMWD, UCR Partner on Water Affordability Study

Perris, CA (January 28, 2020) — An academic study by the University of California, Riverside’s (UCR) School of Public Policy, conducted in partnership with Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD), has found that water and sewer costs within EMWD’s service area were a fraction of the federal government’s water affordability threshold.

UCR reviewed eight years’ worth of monthly water bills from EMWD’s service area and compared household water costs the costs of water to other household expenses as a fraction of median household income (MHI). They find that, on average, monthly water and sewer costs accounted for approximately 1.5 percent of median monthly household income.

EMWD Launches New ‘My Account’ Customer Portal

Perris, CA (January 9, 2020) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) this week debuted its new ‘My Account’ customer portal, which will provide an expanded array of online tools to help customers monitor water use and conduct business with EMWD.

The new portal – www.emwd.org/MyAccount – is the first phase of a long-term commitment to provide enhanced features on EMWD’s bill pay website.

Be Sewer Smart with FOG This Holiday Season

Perris, CA (November 27, 2019) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) would like to remind its customers to be Sewer Smart this holiday season by limiting what they put down the drain.

As families come together and make large, holiday meals – including turkey and roast beef – often times significant amounts of fats, oils and grease (FOG) are collected at the bottom of cooking dishes. When those liquids are poured down the drain and enter the sewer system, they begin to harden as they cool and eventually solidify, causing blockages in customer’s homes and within EMWD’s sewer collection system.

EMWD Birding Tours Resume at San Jacinto Wetlands

Perris, CA (October 21, 2019) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD)’s popular birding tours resume this month at EMWD’s San Jacinto Wetlands and will run through April 2020.

The free, family-friendly tours will take place on the fourth Saturday of each month at the EMWD’s Wetlands, where guests can view more than 120 species of birds that call the facility their permanent or temporary home. Previous tour guests have spotted bald eagles at the site.

EMWD Awarded $36M Grant To Improve Local Groundwater Quality

Perris, CA (October 21, 2019) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) was recently awarded $36.3 million in grant funding from the State Water Resources Control Board, the largest grant in EMWD’s history.

The funding is a significant step toward the advancement of EMWD’s proposed Perris North Groundwater Program, which is a long term solution to improve groundwater quality in the North Perris Groundwater Basin, in the Moreno Valley area. The program would also make beneficial use of available local groundwater supplies, up to 6,700 acre-feet per year, further reducing reliance on imported water supplies.
