Contests
Poster Contest
Each year, EMWD sponsors a poster contest for students in grades TK-5. The winning students, as well as their teachers, are honored at an awards ceremonies hosted by EMWD. Of the winning posters, the top five are submitted to The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California in Los Angeles for consideration for a possible spot on the WATER IS LIFE calendar.
Video Contest
At the end of 2020, EMWD launched its first-ever video contest, Pipeline Productions – A Video Contest by EMWD. This contest is for students in grades 9-12 and requires teacher facilitation. The requirements for this contest are aligned with the Common Core Standards.
The winning student(s) will have their video featured on EMWD’s social media channels.

Solar Cup High School Education Program
The pandemic changed the landscape in Eastern
Municipal Water Districts education programs, and it also changed
the format of Metropolitan Water District’s Solar Cup program.
Traditionally the program is focused on gaining STEAM knowledge
to race a solar-powered boat. Beginning in 2021, Solar Cup
has been an online virtual challenge. The program broadened in
scope, to give students a wider variety of activities to build
upon their skills as they began to look to higher education and
choose their career paths.
Write-Off Contest
Each year, EMWD hosts a Write-Off contest for students in grades 6-8. This contest requires teacher facilitation and is aligned with the Common Core Standards.
The winning student(s) will have their story published.
