EMWD Recognized for Financial Reporting

Perris, CA (August 17, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) for the 19th consecutive year has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) with its Excellence in Financial Reporting award.

The award recognizes EMWD for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022.

The GFOA is a nonprofit organization for government finance professionals that promotes transparency by its 21,000 members.

EMWD Protects Water Quality Through PFAS Remediation Efforts

Perris, CA (August 15, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has been at the forefront of efforts to protect its customers from PFAS in groundwater supplies and has worked diligently with its partners from the federal government to find solutions and continue to bring safe and reliable service to its customers.

PFAS are per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, which are a class of chemicals resistant to heat, water and oil that have been used in consumer products. These chemicals are often found throughout the environment and pose a public health risk.

EMWD Increases Funding for Turf Removal Program

Perris, CA (July 10, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has increased funding available for its turf removal program to $4 per square foot, the highest total it has offered in assisting customers with landscape transformations.

The $4 per square foot is an increase of $1 per square foot and is in partnership with The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan). EMWD’s share of the program is now $2 and Metropolitan’s share remains at $2 for the total of $4.

Riverside County Approves Additional $4.5M in ARPA Funding for EMWD Projects

Perris, CA (July 7, 2023) —Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has received funding support from the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to help advance three infrastructure projects that will improve water supply reliability in the region.

The funding was backed by Riverside County Fifth District Supervisor Yxstain Gutierrez, who represents the San Jacinto Valley, where all three projects are located.

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding will help support the following EMWD projects:

Perris, CA (June 23, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) encourages its customers to celebrate National Hydration Day by enjoying a delicious glass of high-quality tap water, at a fraction of the price of bottled water.

National Hydration Day takes place each year on June 23 as a reminder to remain hydrated to avoid dehydration, heat stroke and other heat-related issues.

EMWD Tap Water Safety Highlighted in 2022 Water Quality Report

Perris, CA (June 19, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has released its annual 2022 Consumer Confidence Report, which provides customers with science-based information about EMWD’s water quality and sources.

The report provides information about the 2022 calendar year. Public water agencies are required to publish the report by July 1 each year.

EMWD once again met and surpassed all federal and state drinking water standards that are established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and State Water Resources Control Board.

EMWD Honored by CAPIO for Media Relations Efforts

Perris, CA (May 16, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District was honored this month for its outstanding media relations efforts by the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO).

EMWD was recognized with CAPIO’s Award of Distinction in the Media Event category for its Perris II Desalter Dedication event, hosted in June 2022. In conjunction with the ceremonial valve-turning to commission EMWD’s new desalination facility, EMWD hosted television, radio, print and online media entities to help educate the public about the new water supply source.

EMWD Relaxes Drought Water Use Regulations

Perris, CA (April 19, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District today announced it is moving into Stage 1 of its Water Shortage Contingency Plan after record-setting rain and snowfall throughout the state this winter helped reverse California’s historic drought conditions.

EMWD had been in Stage 3a of its Water Shortage Contingency Plan since November 2021. In Stage 3a, EMWD suspended variances for filling swimming pools and establishing new landscaping, and asked customers for a voluntary 25 percent reduction in water use.

EMWD Vice President Corona Elected as LAFCO Commissioner

Perris, CA (March 30, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District Vice President Stephen J. Corona this week was elected to the Board of Commissioners for the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) for the western district of Riverside County.


Corona joins the seven-member LAFCO Board as a Special District representative. The LAFCO Board includes two Riverside County Supervisors, two City Council representatives, two special district representatives, and a member of the public.

EMWD Secures $4.5M in Federal Funding for Desalination Program

Perris, CA (March 3, 2023) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) this week received a multi-million dollar funding commitment from the United States Army Corps of Engineers (Army Corps) to construct infrastructure to support EMWD’s groundwater desalination program.

The Army Corps Fiscal Year 2023 workplan included $4.5 million for Phase 2 of the Valley Boulevard and Murrieta Road pipeline project in Menifee. The pipeline will deliver untreated water to EMWD’s desalination facility.
