EMWD Honored for Innovative Work in Recycled Water

Perris, CA (March 8, 2022) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) was honored today by the national WateReuse Association with its Transformational Innovation Award for EMWD’s work in helping to pilot test a technology to reduce salts in recycled water.

EMWD was recognized at the WateReuse National Conference in San Antonio, Tex., where it received the award for its Closed Circuit Reverse Osmosis (CCRO) pilot project.

EMWD Debuts Webcam at Wetlands Birding Facility

Perris, CA (February 23, 2022) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has installed a webcam at its San Jacinto Wetlands, which will allow viewers a real time look at the more than 120 species of birds that call the facility their home.

EMWD Board to Vote on Updated Division Boundaries

Perris, CA (February 8, 2022) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) is encouraging customers to take part in its process to establish updated boundaries for its Board of Directors divisions.

EMWD will host its second public hearing to consider updated boundaries during its Board Meeting on February 16, 2022. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at EMWD’s Board Room, located at 2270 Trumble Road in Perris.

EMWD Receives $4.5M Funding Authorization for Desalination Program

Perris, CA (January 27, 2022) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) this month was awarded nearly $4.5 million by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to further expand EMWD’s groundwater desalination infrastructure.

EMWD has long been one of the most successful agencies in the nation at working with state and federal funding partners to secure external funding opportunities, helping to reduce the cost of infrastructure construction that would otherwise be paid for by customers.

Perris, CA (January 19, 2022) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) today honored Congressman Mark Takano (CA-41) with its Water Champion Award.

The EMWD Water Champion Award is presented to an individual who shows exemplary service in helping EMWD achieve its mission to deliver value to our diverse customers and the communities we serve by providing safe, reliable, economical, and environmentally sustainable water, wastewater, and recycled water service.

EMWD Statement on SWRCB Regulations

Perris, CA (January 12, 2022) — The following is a statement from Eastern Municipal Water District Board President Phil Paule regarding the recent water waste regulations adopted by the State Water Resources Control Board:

“Last week, the State Water Resources Control Board (State Board) adopted emergency regulations addressing wasteful water use practices amidst continuing drought conditions. The regulations prohibit overwatering yards, washing cars without a shutoff nozzle, hosing down sidewalks or watering grass within 48 hours after rainfall.

EMWD Posts Unclaimed Money List

Perris, CA (January 5, 2022) — Current and former customers of Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) may be entitled to unclaimed money. Each year, EMWD posts a list of unclaimed monies, which are typically refunds associated with the closing of water accounts, water efficiency rebates or other fees.

EMWD Customers Urged to Perform Due Diligence on Insurance Advertisements

Perris, CA (December 28, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) is advising customers to do their due diligence if they are contacted by a private company offering water line insurance.

While some companies may be fully licensed and reputable, others attempting to sell the insurance may seek to take advantage of residents, particularly seniors, by using scare tactics in their advertising efforts. Some of these companies include language in their policies that make it extremely difficult for homeowners to collect on a claim.

San Jacinto Student Honored for Water Artwork

Perris, CA (December 16, 2021) — A San Jacinto student has been selected to have their artwork featured in a calendar promoting the importance of safe and reliable water supplies.

Aiden Chavez, a student at De Anza Elementary School in the San Jacinto Unified School District, was honored earlier this month by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) as part of their annual “Water is Life” poster contest.

EMWD Achieves AAA Credit Rating

Perris, CA (November 30, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has achieved a AAA credit rating by Fitch, one of the three major rating agencies, as part of its continued commitment to being strong financial stewards of public funds.

The AAA rating provides direct benefits to customers by helping EMWD secure low interest rates, which provide long-term cost savings to customers when funding infrastructure needed to provide safe and reliable water, wastewater and recycled water services.

EMWD Board to Consider Revisions to Division Boundaries

Perris, CA (November 18, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has initiated the process to realign its Board Member divisions in response to population data from the 2020 census.

As a government-authorized Special District, EMWD provides service to nearly 900,000 customers across a 558-square mile service area that stretches from Moreno Valley to Temecula, and from the San Jacinto Valley to the Mead Valley area. Each division should represent approximately 174,000 people.

EMWD Increases Drought Stage in Response to Regional Emergency Declarations

Perris, CA (November 18, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District’s (EMWD) Board of Directors this week urged customers who are exceeding their water budgets to eliminate wasteful practices as part of EMWD’s move into Stage 3a of its Water Shortage Contingency Plan.

The move to Stage 3a is a result of rapidly evolving drought conditions that prompted The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) to declare an emergency drought status on November 9, 2021. The State of California has also declared a drought emergency.
