Perris, CA (December 16, 2021) — A San Jacinto student has been selected to have their artwork featured in a calendar promoting the importance of safe and reliable water supplies.

Aiden Chavez, a student at De Anza Elementary School in the San Jacinto Unified School District, was honored earlier this month by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) as part of their annual “Water is Life” poster contest.

Chavez was the top artist in the annual contest within Eastern Municipal Water District’s (EMWD) service area. Each year, contest winners are included in the calendar produced by MWD and are recognized at an event.

Chavez’s artwork depicts a firefighting helicopter dropping water on a forest fire and includes the caption “prevent wildfires to preserve water.” His artwork appears in the month of February in the 2022 calendar.

“EMWD is incredibly proud of Aiden, and all of the students who participated in the annual poster contest,” EMWD Board President Phil Paule said. “Our award-winning education program helps teach area students the value and importance of our water supplies, and Aiden’s artwork shares how critical our water supplies are in keeping California safe.”
