Perris, CA (July 19, 2022) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) wants to remind its customers the importance of remaining within their water budgets during the summer months of California’s ongoing drought.

EMWD has personalized water budgets for every account, based on a variety of factors, including the number of individuals in the household, the square footage of landscaped area, monthly evapotranspiration rates based on weather patterns, and the age of the home.

In the hotter summer months, water budgets are increased to reflect the increased temperatures that result in plants needing additional water. Remaining within your budget is critical as California continues to face water supply shortages.

Customers may view their projected water budget and track use throughout the month on EMWD’s MyAccount customer portal.

EMWD offers resources to help customers reduce their use and ensure they remain within their water budget. Customers are eligible to receive rebates of up to $3 per square foot of turf removed at their property through the regional So Cal Water Smart turf removal program.

Another great way to remain in budget is to have a Smart Irrigation Controller installed through EMWD’s Landscapes for Living program. The controller will automatically adjust irrigation times based on the day’s weather, meaning customers no longer need to manually adjust the controller.

“As the weather gets hotter, we encourage customers to be mindful of their water budgets so they remain efficient and also save money,” EMWD General Manager Joe Mouawad said. “Remaining within your water budget is an important way to ensure you are doing your part in using water responsibly as we face historic drought conditions and work collaboratively to eliminate wasteful practices.”
