Perris, CA (July 6, 2023) — July is Smart Irrigation Month, and Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) is celebrating by encouraging customers to be efficient with their outdoor watering.

As the weather gets hot through the summer months, being efficient and irrigating properly becomes even more important to help use water wisely while giving your plants the water they need to thrive in the heat.

Some steps that customers may take to be smart irrigators this month:

  • Only water between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., when the temperature is cooler. This will prevent evaporation and allow the most water to seep into the soil and keep your plants healthy.
  • Install a Smart Irrigation Controller, which will automatically update irrigation times daily. EMWD offers FREE weather-based irrigation controllers and will install them for you, as well. Customers may visit landscapesforliving.emwd.org for more information and other resources that can help transform your outdoor living space.
  • This is a good time to make sure your system is in good working order. By periodically checking for things like broken sprinkler heads or disconnected drip lines, you will be able to make small repairs that lead to big water savings.
