Wetlands Facility
Webcam at the Wetlands
In partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation during the early 1990s, EMWD built a nearly 60-acre constructed wetlands facility that offers a lush habitat for migratory fowl, shore birds and raptors along the Pacific Flyway.
The wetlands also provide a low-tech, low-energy method to treat the wastewater, naturally removing nitrates and nitrites via bulrush, as well as a unique research station for the development of new innovations in water and wastewater treatment.
The wetlands facility is also home to EMWD’s water education center, which features numerous hands-on activities where students experience an exciting day and increase their knowledge. EMWD also hosts seasonal bird-watching tours led by experienced National Audubon Society members.
Webcam at the Wetlands
Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has a webcam at our San Jacinto Wetlands. The webcam allows the public to view live footage of the Wetlands. One can now enjoy seeing local and visiting birds having a swim, building a nest, or catching a meal.
The San Jacinto Wetlands located at EMWD’s San Jacinto Valley Regional Water Reclamation Facility was formed in the mid 1990’s. The wetlands were built to be used to help with the treatment plant process as well as create a beautiful habitat for birds and other wildlife. More than 120 species of birds have been spotted there. The Wetlands is also used for education purposes on school field trips and public tours.
Bird Walks
Join EMWD for a Bird Walk and share the opportunity to view ibises, egrets, blackbirds and many other migratory and resident birds in their natural habitat at the EMWD Wetlands.
Located on the grounds of the San Jacinto Valley Regional Water Reclamation Facility, the multi-purpose constructed wetlands “polishes” recycled water before it is distributed to nearby farms, dairies, and the San Jacinto Wildlife Area for irrigation and additional environmental uses.
