What We Do

Change in Water Supply

In early April 2021, EMWD began transitioning to using more water from the Colorado River Aqueduct (CRA) system and less State Water Project (SWP) water from Northern California.  Customers may notice some additional scaling on shower heads, toilets or faucets because CRA water has a higher naturally occurring salt level.

All water served by EMWD is treated prior to being placed into EMWDs distribution system, and it meets or exceeds all state and federal water quality standards.  The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), which provides approximately half of EMWDs water supplies, has instituted this operational change due to statewide dry conditions that have led to a minimal allocation of SWP water.

EMWD continues to invest in local water supplies, including the expansion of its Groundwater Reliability Plus program, which includes water banking, a new desalination complex, and other investments in local groundwater supplies to help offset some of the impacts associated with changes in statewide water supply conditions.
