EMWD Celebrates National Water Quality Month

Press Release

Perris, CA (August 1, 2022) — Eastern Municipal Water District is proud to celebrate National Water Quality Month throughout August by reaffirming its longstanding commitment to its customers to deliver clean and reliable tap water.

National Water Quality Month was founded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) in 2005 and supported by the United Nations to raise awareness of the importance of safe drinking water. The celebratory month was started to honor the Clean Water Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act, both of which are milestone moments in protecting water quality and public health.

EMWD conducts approximately 40,000 water quality tests each year to ensure it meets and exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards set forth by the USEPA and the State Water Resources Control Board.

As California’s drought has worsened, access to safe and reliable drinking water sources becomes even more important. EMWD has invested in a diverse water supply portfolio to meet the needs of its customers. These sources include local groundwater, groundwater desalination, and imported water supplies.

EMWD also manages its groundwater basins to meet long-term water quality objectives to ensure future sustainability of its local groundwater sources.

“We are proud to celebrate National Water Quality Month with our customers,” EMWD Board President Phil Paule said. “Each day, throughout August and every month of the year, we are proud to deliver a safe and reliable water supply that our customers have come to expect from EMWD.”
