New partnership formed to address Inland Empire water challenges

Four water agencies today announced the launch of a new regional partnership to increase awareness of and advocate for solutions to regional water quality and supply challenges. The Inland Empire Clean Water Partnership (IE CWP) is launching as many municipalities face challenges surrounding dry-weather conditions and we approach another hot summer in Southern California.

EMWD Introduces Latest Education Book

Perris, CA (June 29, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) is proud to introduce “Frog and Turtle: Water Escapades” as the newest in its ongoing series of educational books.

The comic book inspired story details where EMWD’s water supplies come from, with a frog and a turtle discovering that they are living through an ongoing drought and learning about their water supplies to better understand how to use water more efficiently.

EMWD Releases Annual Water Quality Report

Perris, CA (June 24, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has released its 2020 Consumer Confidence Report, which provides a science-based overview of EMWD’s drinking water quality and sources from the prior calendar year.

EMWD once again met and surpassed all state and federal drinking water standards as set forth by the State Water Resources Control Board and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The report is issued on or before July 1 each year.

EMWD Team Excels in Solar Cup Competition

Perris, CA (June 15, 2021) — A local high school team sponsored by Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) won a first and third place trophy during the recent Solar Cup competition.

Solar Cup is sponsored by The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and is designed to teach high school students about science, technology, and water conservation as part of its annual program.

EMWD Announces Winner of First-Ever Education Video Contest

Perris, CA (June 3, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) is proud to announce the winner of its inaugural video contest for high school students that highlights where EMWD’s water supplies originate from and what happens after they use it.

Robyn Romo, a junior at Canyon Springs High School in the Moreno Valley Unified School District, was selected the winner of the contest, which was open to students within EMWD’s 555-square mile service area in western Riverside County.

Joe Mouawad Selected as EMWD General Manager

Perris, CA (April 21, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District’s (EMWD) Board of Directors today selected Joe Mouawad as EMWD’s next General Manager following a nationwide search.

Mouawad has served in various leadership roles with EMWD for the past 15 years, bringing a wealth of internal experience to his new responsibility of leading California’s sixth-largest retail water agency. Mouawad is the eighth General Manager in EMWD’s 71-year history.

EMWD to Begin Construction of Murrieta Road Pipeline Project

 

Perris, CA (April 14, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) began work this month on a new water transmission pipeline in Murrieta Road in the City of Menifee.

The Murrieta Road Pipeline Improvement Project will construct a 36-inch pipeline on Murrieta Road between Salt Creek and La Piedra Road. The new pipeline will support EMWD’s new groundwater desalination facility and allow EMWD to provide additional water supply reliability to the surrounding community.

EMWD Offers Payment Assistance Programs

Perris, CA (March 25, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) continues to offer payment assistance programs for customers who may be facing financial difficulties with paying their water bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the Governor’s Executive Order currently prohibits shutoffs for non-payment, once that order is lifted, many customers with significant balances due may be at risk of shut off. To help customers manage outstanding balances, EMWD offers a range of programs to assist customers in becoming current on their bills including:

EMWD Begins Work on Sky Canyon Sewer Project

Perris, CA (February 9, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) will begin work in the coming weeks on a new large-diameter sewer line in the French Valley area.

The Sky Canyon Sewer Project will involve the installation of 6,700 feet of 36-inch sewer line, with the majority of the pipeline alignment on Sky Canyon Drive north of Murrieta Hot Springs Road. The sewer line will connect to existing infrastructure near Hunter Road and Winchester Road.

Phil Paule Selected as EMWD Board President

Perris, CA (January 6, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) Board Director Phil Paule, who represents the Winchester, French Valley and the southwest Moreno Valley areas, was selected as the new President of EMWD’s Board of Directors today.

Paule has served on EMWD’s Board of Directors since 2007 and was most recently its Vice President. EMWD rotates its Board President and Vice President every two years.

EMWD Receives $25M Federal Authorization for South Perris Desalination Program

Perris, CA (January 5, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has received a $25 million authorization to support its desalination program through the recently passed Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) that was signed into law in late December 2020.  The recent WRDA passage increases Federal funding support for EMWD’s South Perris Desalination Program from $25 million to $50 million.

Western and EMWD partner to enhance water reliability for March Air Reserve Base

RIVERSIDE, CA – Western Municipal Water District (Western) and Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) entered into an interagency agreement this month to partner on efforts to enhance water supply reliability for March Air Reserve Base (March ARB).

The North Perris Groundwater Basin Program participation agreement between Western and EMWD supports a commitment to remedy and protect groundwater resources, providing a new local water supply for the area.
