7th Street road closure for sewer pipeline project
A two-week road closure beginning October 1 on 7th Street at the railroad crossing will be necessary to install a major sewer pipeline that will serve San Jacinto city residents and businesses. This short segment is part of a four-mile wastewater infrastructure project that will be finished by September 2008.
Although most pipeline installations leave one lane open during normal work hours, and often can be restored to two lanes during evening hours, this specific segment requires boring under the railroad tracks, and eliminates the possibility of trenching, according to Charlie Bachmann, Eastern Municipal Water District Assistant General Manager for Engineering. “It’s a more complicated process,” he said, “and to minimize the closure period, we have worked very carefully with the contractor to work out an extremely tight schedule.”
Working hours on this road closure phase will be from 7 am to 5 pm, Mondays through Saturdays. It is scheduled to be reopened Sunday, October 14.
Vehicles will be encouraged to detour around the work area by using West Main Street or Santa Fe Avenue on the east, Esplanade Avenue on the south, State Street on the west, or De Anza Drive on the north.
The wastewater construction work, known as the San Jacinto Valley Interceptor Sewer Project, will install 21-inch to 36-inch pipelines, and will direct wastewater flows to EMWD’s San Jacinto Valley Regional Water Reclamation Facility at 770 N. Sanderson Avenue. This project will provide expanded wastewater collection infrastructure as it approaches its capacity.

EMWD is the freshwater, wastewater service and recycled water provider to a 555-square mile area from Moreno Valley southward along the I-215 corridor to Temecula and eastward to Hemet and San Jacinto. Approximately 660,000 people live and work in this area. In addition to its own water customers, EMWD supplements water to eight local water agencies and municipalities that have their own water departments.
