Water District Shows Quarterly Increase in
Developer Projects
Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) processed plans for 37 projects requiring water
and sewer service connections during the first quarter of 2000, one more than last
years figures for the same period.
The January - March 2000 figures include 2,327 residential units, 32 parcels of
commercial and industrial development in four separate projects, and seven varied,
privately-financed infrastructure projects to meet growing needs in the area.
Business growth included a shopping center in Murrieta, industrial parcels near I-215
north of Perris, and an expansion for Perris-based National R.V. Holdings, a recreational
vehicle manufacturer.
Infrastructure projects included water and sewer pipelines that will serve March Inland
Cargo Port.
"In terms of residential and business growth, last year was the busiest year
weve had since 1991, when 132 major residential and commercial/industrial projects
submitted applications for water and sewer service. This year, we are on pace to meet or
exceed last years figures," said Victor Barreto, senior civil engineer.
Barreto said most of the districts residential growth is taking place in the
Temecula and Menifee areas, while commercial and industrial projects are popping up in
Temecula, Hemet-San Jacinto, Perris and elsewhere in the central part of the EMWD service
area.
EMWD provides water, wastewater and recycled water service to about 435,000 people in a
555-square mile area of western Riverside County running along the I-215 corridor from
Moreno Valley southward to Temecula and eastward to Hemet and San Jacinto.
