In large part because of its assistance in saving ratepayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, Eastern Municipal Water District announced on Dec. 19 that it has honored RMJ Technologies with its Supplier of the Year Award.
This is the seventh consecutive year that EMWD has bestowed the award on one of its more than 250 vendors.
RMJ is a GPS vehicle tracking solutions provider that EMWD initially signed a contract with in 2008. That move was approved by EMWD’s Board of Directors and the program was initiated on March 30, 2009.
Since installing GPS fleet optimization units in its vehicles, EMWD has saved hundreds of thousands of dollars annually through a variety of means.
EMWD has reduced fuel costs by more than $135,000 since it began using RMJ’s equipment and has reduced its insurance costs by more than $40,000. It has saved in excess of $700,000 in labor efficiency, resulting in a total financial benefit of $929,000 through July 2012.
The initial system cost was $238,815, and EMWD had a net benefit in excess of $690,000 in savings during the first year of implementation. Subsequent years have shown continuing savings in excess of the annual service costs for the system.
Additionally, vehicle liability claims have dropped from $429,880 in 2009 to $8,209 in 2011. EMWD has not had a speed-related at-fault accident since the implementation of the GPS units.
Dan Howell, EMWD’s Director of Purchasing, said that RMJ has been an exemplary company to work with and their customer service has been a bright spot for the District.
“It’s been a very good company to work with,” Howell said. “It has been a very successful project and they have helped the District save its ratepayers a lot of money.”
The Supplier of the Year is determined by a number of criteria, including employee feedback, customer service and overall benefit of the contract to the District.
